A dramatic injury time own goal saw Bromley pick up all three points away at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night and move to within a point of the play off places.
Bromley went into the game unchanged from Saturday after the club successfully appealed Joe Kizzi’s sending off against Barnet, with Frankie Raymond continuing to deputise for the suspended Chris Bush at left back.
The game got off to an open start with both teams looking to go direct to their strikers and play from there, but their respective defences coped well with the task.
It was the home side who created the first chance when Rhys Murphy forced a good save from Mark Cousins firing across goal, before Courtney Duffus set up Michael Cheek who shot wide from just inside the box at the other end.
Play was broken up by several free kicks for fouls, with Referee Durkin eventual showing a total of nine yellow cards. Late on in the half The Glovers pressed with Josh Neufville having a shot from a tight angle saved by the feet of Cousins at his near post and then The Ravens keeper punched away a corner from under his bar, before Albi Skendi fired over.
The second half saw Bromley start on top, Luke Coulson crossed for Duffus whose powerful header was tipped over by Adam Smith, before Cheek & Jack Bridge were both flagged for offside when well placed to shoot.
The Ravens finally made their pressure pay on 56 minutes when Coulson crossed from the right for Cheek who headed home from six yards out to make it 1-0, his seventeenth goal of the season.
Bromley almost made it two soon after when Cheek set up Raymond, but his goal bound effort was blocked by Matt Worthington. With Bromley looking to press again, it was the home side who levelled up on 64 minutes when Joe Quigley played in Murphy whose powerful drive from the edge of the area was blocked by the diving Byron Webster and the Referee awarded a penalty for hand ball.
Murphy smashed the spot kick into the top corner of the net to equalise and throw the game wide open. Knowles & Skendi both then went close as Yeovil looked to take the game to Bromley, while at the other end Coulson’s cross for Cheek was scrambled away to safety.
Late on Knowles crossed for Reuben Reid who headed narrowly wide at the far post and Murphy was also just off target for the home team after good work by Carl Dickinson.
Then deep into injury time Bromley dramatically snatched the win, when Raymond’s inswinging free kick from the right was headed into his own net by Reid in a crowded penalty box giving Smith no chance.
This was Bromley’s first every win away at Yeovil and takes Neil Smith’s side up to eighth in the table ahead of their home game with Solihull Moors on Saturday.
