Wrexham 1-0 Bromley
Wrexham 1-0 Bromley

Bromley failed to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season and paid for it with a solitary goal defeat to relegation strugglers Wrexham.

In a game of few chances table toppers Bromley never got going and could only have themselves to blame for falling to defeat.

Ravens manager Neil Smith made two changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Stockport in midweek. Billy Bingham and Frankie Raymond returned replacing Josh Rees and Adam Mekki.

The first half, however, was a flat affair with very few chances of note in either attacking third.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild forced Rob Lainton into a fine save with his stinging volley bringing out the best in the Wrexham custodian.

Huddart replicated the quality of that save with a point blank block from Paul Rutherford’s volley minutes before half time.

That was to be as good as it got in a tedious half of action.

The second 45 saw the home side have the better of proceedings albeit the general quality of the game remained poor.

Neil Smith responded to the flat first half performance with an early substitution, Mekki replacing Klaas as Bromley looked to be more positive going forward.

This nearly paid dividends when Mekki saw an effort from the edge of the area deflected over the crossbar.

Wrexham got a stranglehold on the game as the half progressed and Rutherford came close to giving the Dragons the lead when put through on the goal but Huddart did well to rush out and block his strike.

Rutherford tested Huddart again from 25 yards but Huddart was equal to the strike turning it away for a corner.

He could do nothing about the Wrexham goal, however, a corner was cleared as far as Luke Young who hit a terrific dipping volley from the edge of the area giving Huddart no chance.

Bromley could perhaps have equalised at the death but Joe Kizzi’s header from Rarmani Edmonds-Green’s cross flashed across the face of the goal.

Despite the defeat Bromley remain top as none of their closest rivals were able to pick up a win meaning they go into the FA Cup clash with Bristol Rovers backed to cause a potential upset.
