Worthing v Welling United preview

Having claimed maximum points over the festive season, Welling United travel to Worthing on Saturday looking to extend their run.

They won at Tonbridge Angels on Boxing Day and followed up by beating the same opposition at Park View Road on New Year’s Day.

Their opponents on Saturday have had an excellent start to their first season at this level. They are currently sixth in the table with ten wins, ten draws and five defeats under their belts.

They are unbeaten in three matches, however before their last match on their own pitch, a four-three victory over Hampton and Richmond Borough, they had lost three home matches on the spin.

On a mild night back in August Worthing visited Welling in their first ever Vanarama National League South away game and went back to Sussex with all three points. Callum Kealey put them ahead in the fifth minute, but Tyrique Hyde levelled for the Wings two minutes later.

Lewis White put them back ahead and Joe Rye added a third before Ade Azeez pulled one back still within an eventful first thirty minutes. Kealey restored their two-goal advantage just shy of the hour mark. There was no further goalscoring and Worthing saw the game out comfortably.

At home, Worthing have won four, drawn five and lost four. Away from home, Welling have a similar win and draws record but have lost just twice.

Warren Feeney will be without Stefan Payne who starts a two-game ban, but he should have Chi Ezennolim back available for selection. One person who has left the club is Yaser Kasim, having failed to hold down a first team place, and that may allow Feeney the budget to recruit an additional player ahead of the game.
