Gillingham midfielder Henry Woods has signed a new one-year contract with the club ahead of the 2020/21 season.
After spending time at Southampton as a youth, Woods, 20, joined the Gills as a first-year scholar and has featured four times for the first team to date after signing his first professional deal in 2018, his first start coming in October 2019 in the EFL Trophy against Ipswich.
He has enjoyed loan spells at both Sittingbourne and a Concord Rangers, but now wants to feature for the first team.
He has been given the squad number 23 ahead of the new campaign, and is excited to push on, telling the club website: “I have been here for a few years now and hopefully this season will be my best yet.
“I feel this is the year I need to try and break through. I am fitter and I am sharper. There is a lot of quality in the squad which I can hopefully learn from and improve as a player.”
Manager Steve Evans added: “Henry has earned his contract extension. At present we are looking closely as to whether he goes out on loan or is capable of competing for a first-team place.
“He is improving every week so it is interesting.”
