Richard Wood is on the verge of returning to his native Yorkshire, by signing for newly promoted Rotherham.
Ossett born Wood came through the Sheffield Wednesday youth system and had an eight year stint in the Wednesday first team.
The 28-year-old central defender made 171 appearances for the Owls, scoring 7 goals. Wood moved on to Coventry during the 2009/10 season and enjoyed four seasons at the Ricoh.
He played 117 league games for the Sky Blues, netting 8 goals before switching to the Addicks last summer.
Wood made 18 league starts for Charlton and came on 3 times as a substitute. He also made 5 starts in the cup competitions.
Wood had competition from Dorian Dervite – as well as Leon Cort in the early part of the season – to be Michael Morrison’s partner at the heart of the defence.
Wood has an option for another year with the Addicks when his contract expires at the end of the month, but it now seems certain his stay at The Valley is over.
Sheffield based sources are suggesting Wood has already undergone a medical at the New York Stadium.
