Former Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday defender, Richard Wood, seems to have done enough to convince Chris Powell to offer him a contract.
Powell had this to say about the rugged defender:
“We’re hoping to discuss with his (Wood’s) agent a way forward. I’ve been quietly happy with what he’s done over the past 10 days.”
Wood be a natural like-for-like replacement for Matt Taylor.
The Addicks have a couple of midweek matches as their preparation for the new season continues. The development squad will play at Bromley on Tuesday evening and the first team will be AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see who is involved at Bromley now that the youngsters who travelled to Spain are available again.
Powell is likely to want his starting team to get more time on the pitch than the 45 minutes segments most have played so far. Wimbledon will provide a reasonable test but the manager will be wary of the stifling conditions.
Powell has experimented with various formations thus far but he will want to opt for a settled shape and formation in the next week or so.
