Charlton CEO, Katrien Meire, arrived at Molineux in a Porsche driven by her Wolves counterpart, Jez Moxey.
That was a huge clue that the pair had been talking business, could they strike a deal that would take James Henry to The Valley?
The next clue seemed to indicate an emphatic ‘no’, Henry was named in Wolves’ starting line-up. Only a few days before we know for certain.
Guy Luzon said in his post-match press conference that an arrival before the transfer window closes was ‘unlikely’, but he would like one more player in.
Simon Makienok’s early departure from the action may influence any decision. The big Dane tweaked his hamstring early on, but continued until Luzon replaced him with Igor Vetokele after 18 minutes. Hopefully, Makienok will be fit for the Rotherham game.
The head coach made another switch at the interval, in an attempt to beef up his attack. El-Hadji Ba came on for Karlan Ahearne-Grant, Johann Gudmundsson moved forward to play just behind Vetokele, and Jordan Cousins moved to the right.
The Addicks had another scare in the second half when Cousins appeared to twist his ankle. Luzon had Regan Charles-Cook ready to replace him, but after treatment, Cousins was able to carry on and showed no ill effects.
Chris Solly returned to the starting line-up, with Cousins moving to central midfield at the expense of Ba. Ahearne-Grant started in place of the injured Tony Watt, in the only other change from the team that started the Hull game.
Gudmundsson and Cousins had first half chances for the visitors, and Henry – who else – impressed for Kenny Jackett’s side.
Charlton took the lead ten minutes after the restart, when Gudmundsson fired home. Zakarya Bergdich played the ball into Vetokele who had his back to goal. The Angolan spun, and played Gudmundsson in. The Icelander did not make the best of contacts, but his effort was good enough to beat Carl Ikeme.
There was a lengthy stoppage on the hour mark when Kevin McDonald appeared to suffer a serious leg injury, following a clash with Solly. The incident contributed to the seven added minutes that were played at the end of the game.
Midway through the half, the ball ping-ponged around in the area, and Wolves skipper, Dave Edwards, took advantage to restore parity for the hosts.
So often a thorn in the Addicks’ side, substitute, Adam Le Fondre, touched home Sheyi Ojo’s cross five minutes from time, to cruelly rob Luzon’s men of a point.
Charlton have made an encouraging start to the campaign, but given their injury concerns, the international break has come at the right time for them.
