It is crunch time for Welling United as they start their Easter programme with a difficult trip to Woking.
Two defeats to league championship chasing teams have left Welling looking down the barrel in the relegation zone, and they now need a run of wins to give them hope of escaping the drop back into the Conference South.
Hosts Woking are well placed in the hunt for a play-off place following four straight wins and will be just as keen to collect the three points on offer. Scott Rendell has been prolific during this spell, netting five times.
Injuries rule out Wings player manager Loui Fazakerley and influential defender Jamal Fyfield. Sam Berry’s participation is questionable and Chris Bush will continue his suspension so will also miss out.
Fazakerly has increased his defensive options by recalling Ben Jefford from his loan spell at Ebbsfleet United and he is expected to slot straight in at left back. That will release the versatile Reece Harris to play a more attacking role and will give Fazakerley options to play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.
Earlier in the season, the two teams shared the points in a one all draw at Park View Road. Harry Beautyman put Welling ahead after 33 minutes but the Cardinals finished strongly and claimed an equaliser with nine minutes remaining through the unlikeliest of sources, Adam Newton.
Ross Lafayette will be up against some former team-mates having had a loan spell at Woking early in 2015, scoring once in his three league starts. He is at Welling now, until the end of the season, and has stated that he wants to score the goals that keep the Wings in the Conference National.
