Welling continued their excellent start to the season with an emphatic victory at Woking on Saturday afternoon.
A fifteen minute spell in the first half in which the Wings notched three goals was sufficient to ensure they were able to record their first away win since promotion to the Skrill Premier.
Three summer signings scored their first goals for the club this season and the hosts were further hampered by the dismissal of former Welling captain Jack Parkinson for two bookings.
After Gavin Williams’ free kick flew over and Kevin Betsy was thwarted by Wings’ keeper Lee Butcher, Welling took command.
Doug Bergqvist and Jake Gallagher both went close before Welling went ahead with a bizarre opening goal.
Harry Beautyman slung in a corner that the Woking goalkeeper Aaron Howe could only punch into his own net under pressure from Ross Lafayette.
Parkinson was then shown a yellow card for a foul on Alex Dyer before Welling doubled their lead.
Joe Healy’s deep cross was met by a thundering Bergqvist header that flew beyond Howe and into the net.
Jack Obersteller and Kurtis Guthrie both brought out saves from Howe before Butcher also produced excellent stops from Anthony McNamee and Adam Newton.
Two goals became three in the 29th minute when Lafayette caught out Brett Johnson before squaring for Beautyman to finish with aplomb.
Obersteller had a free kick saved before Woking reduced the arrears in the 36th minute. Having come close moments earlier, Johnson converted from close range following excellent work by Williams.
Butcher was happy to claim from Mark Ricketts following an almighty goalmouth scramble at the end of the first period.
Woking’s hopes of retrieving the match were made that much harder when Parkinson was dismissed for a second yellow when jumping with Lafayette and a booking for Lee Sawyer was met by a crescendo of boos from the home supporters.
Loick Pires, re-signed by Welling after a season with Woking, replaced the injured Beautyman on the hour and seven minutes later, added a fourth for the Wings.
Another accurate deep Healy cross found Pires unmarked and he made no mistake with his header that gave Howe no chance.
Two minutes later, Woking reduced the arrears when Joe McNerney converted from close range.
Despite putting Welling under pressure for the last 20 minutes, in which Fraser Franks and Blaine Hudson were superb, Woking looked in danger every time Welling broke.
Once again, Butcher was called into action to save from McNamee however Welling might have increased their when Healy guided Joe Obersteller’s long ball into the patch of Lafayette but the team’s leading marksman blasted well over.
One more Butcher save, this time from Mike Cestor, kept Welling from having to endure a nervy last few minutes.
