Sunday the 3rd of September saw Tonbridge Baseball Club finish the regular 2023 season with the Bobcats at home at Borley Field and the Wildcats away at Croydon.
The Bobcats won both their games against the Hurricane Buccaneers in Tonbridge, and with a National playoff place confirmed last week, this week was about finishing with the best possible win percentage, meaning they could avoid the postseason wildcard extra round, and advance straight through to the semi-final.
Game 1, the Bobcats faced an inexperienced yet determined Hurricanes side; Tonbridge started strong and didn’t look back. Sensible defensive work and consistent hitting saw Tonbridge 10-0 up after 2 innings. Inning 3, and the runs kept flowing, the Hurricanes scoring 3, to the Bobcats 6, which included a 3 run home run to deep right field. The game concluded after 5 innings due to a time limit with a final score of 21-10 to the Bobcats, giving them momentum going into game 2.
Game 2 saw the Bobcats scoring the maximum 5 runs per inning, to the Hurricanes 6 run total for the game, finishing 15-6 to Tonbridge. This win means that the Bobcats are 21 wins to 2 losses for the 2023 season, and puts them in a great place coming into the National playoffs this year. Tonbridge will need all the support they can get when they play in the semi final on Sunday 9th September at Williams Field, Hadlow, Kent. First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
The Wildcats also played last Sunday, away to the Croydon Pirates, winning 11 to Croydon’s 2. The second game was forfeited by the Pirates due to a serious player injury, leaving the Wildcats with 7 wins to 12 losses for the 2023 season, which saw the team move into a new league.
All focus now moves to the up and coming Tonbridge Bobcats semi-final battle against the London Mustangs, we hope to see you there!
