Luke Williams who has been racing in Formula Ford has confirmed that he is going to be joining the Formula Four grid.
Williams will be a familiar name to Kent’s Formula Ford fans as he has been racing for Rochester based Jamun Racing in the popular single seater series.
Now though he has announced that he is leaving the series to take up a race seat in Formula Four starting this weekend at Brands Hatch.
He will be driving for Chris Dittman Racing who confirmed that their first car will be hitting the grid for the weekend today. The grid will now increase to 22 cars for the third race of the season, which will be part of the DTM Support races this weekend.
Speaking about the opportunity to join Formula Four, Williams said: “The BRDC F4 Championship looks mega. The competitiveness of the grid is good and the car is one of the best I’ve driven. Qualifying will be tight on the Indy circuit and I’ve only had one day of testing in the car, but I think I can still aim for a podium finish at Brands Hatch.
“I’m really looking forward to racing alongside the DTM, the crowds will be massive and it will be an awesome sensation.”
The 21-year-old is confident that he can achieve a good result at the weekend in his first weekend of the season, and his new team principal is also confident.
Talking about why he gave the drive in Formula Four to Williams, Chris Dittman said: “We’ve been speaking to Luke for the past week or so and we’re delighted to complete the signing. He’s had a tough time in Formula Ford but we can see his pace is very good. He had a very strong test with us on Friday (10 May) and has fitted in really well with the team and we’re delighted to have him on board. Bring on Brands!”
