Wilkins to visit Kent County League

Football legend Ray Wilkins has been confirmed as the guest honour at the Haart of Kent County League annual dinner in June this year.Ray Wilkins

The former England player and Chelsea coach will be speaking at the League’s dinner as part of their reward for achieving a Silver Award in the 2012 FA Respect awards. At the Kent County League’s request, Wilkins will welcome the guests before taking a question and answer session at the event, which is expected to sell out following the announcement of Wilkins as guest of honour.

The Respect Awards look to recognise Leagues, Clubs, County FAs or individuals that are making a significant contribution to improving the behavioural standards in football. We are looking for clubs, league and individuals who have worked to improve standards and create positive environments to be nominated for an award in the League, Club and Individual categories from all levels of the game.

The Kent County League nominated in 2012 and received a Silver Award, which as well as securing Wilkins’ appearance at the annual dinner also landed them a reduced county affiliation fee, footballs and equipment.

The League’s motto, “Fair Play – we Lead the Way” was initiated in 1990 and are now in their 23 rd year of recognising and rewarding clubs who meet disciplinary standards. Being an FA Respect League has given the league the means to target poor behaviour.

Cyril Windiate, Chair of the league, reflected on the win. “It was a major boost for the League’s principle officers and member clubs to be recognised with the Silver Award. We are the first adult male Saturday Respect League in Kent to be awarded such status.”

“This will enable us to continue to raise standards, address abusive behaviour, and grow and retain participants.”

Windiate also praised the impact of the Respect Awards and recommended other clubs and leagues nominate.

“Awards such as these recognise the enormous amount of time and effort put in by volunteers, whose main objective is to secure a better environment for all players, referees and spectators.”

“I would definitely recommend Kent clubs and leagues nominate this year.”

The Kent FA have produced a guide for clubs to explain the awards process and assist applicant clubs in making their nominations.
