Last Sunday saw Tonbridge Wildcats Baseball Team face off once again against the South Coast Pirates in a local derby double header.
With the Pirates winning all eight of their games so far, the odds were firmly in their favour and few expected what was to come.
The first game went with the script as the Pirates took a commanding win, thanks to great pitching and solid hitting. However, it was the second game that stole the show.
In the final innings, the Wildcats needed three to win – and they did! Patience at the plate and very timely hitting ensured that Tonbridge walked off the diamond as victors; handing the Pirates their first loss of the season.
Next up for Tonbridge Baseball is a home fixture against the Bucs at Borley Field on Sunday 16th. So if you’re in the area, why not treat Dad to some free baseball on Father’s Day, weather permitting, and get a taste of what’s to come in the London MLB series at the end of the month.
Or, if you’ve ever been interested in baseball, Tonbridge is always looking for new players. All you have to do is be 14 years old or older and full of enthusiasm, as they’ll provide the equipment and coaching.
