Another Sunday and another local derby for the Tonbridge Wildcats; this time facing off against the Kent Buccaneers.
For much of the morning, it looked like the weather would have the final say, but the game started at midday in little more than light drizzle.
Unfortunately, the ground was still sodden and a wet ball made fielding and pitching difficult. The Bucs coped better with the conditions and a combination of strong batting and accurate pitching gave them a comfortable win.
However, as with last week, the tide turned for the second game and the Wildcats came out on top by a score of 7-2, with strong pitching and fielding backed up by a better batting performance.
Next Sunday sees the Bobcats and Wildcats in action for away games against Kent Mariners and Brighton Jets respectively. (Weather permitting).
The weekend after (29th/30th June) sees the first ever MLB regular season game hit our shores with fierce rivals the New York Yankees going up against the Boston Red Sox. The games are free to stream through the BBC, so they’re a perfect opportunity to start your journey into the world of baseball!
If you’ve ever been interested in baseball, Tonbridge is always looking for new players. All you have to do is be 14 years old or older and full of enthusiasm, as they’ll provide the equipment and coaching.
