Karl Robinson takes his injury ravaged side to Wigan on Friday evening. The Latics are at the top of their game right now, and any sort of a result would be a bonus.
Charlton turned in a dreadful performance at Southend on Tuesday, but with so many injuries, Robinson’s options are restricted.
The manager mentioned earlier in the week that Patrick Bauer might be available for this game. I spoke to Bauer before the Blackpool match on Saturday, and he told me he was two weeks away from fitness.
Latest reports suggest Bauer will not be involved at the DW, which is wise. A number of players have probably been rushed back too quickly.
Ahmed Kashi had a poor game at Southend, and despite being replaced at half-time, he is likely to start again.
Harry Lennon replaced Kashi, and looked Charlton’s best defender on the day. He could well start this game, which would free up Ezri Konsa to play in midfield or move across to right-back.
If Robinson prefers not to start with two left-footed central defenders, another option would be to move Naby Sarr to left-back and push Jay Dasilva into midfield.
Ricky Holmes returned to skipper the side at Roots Hall, but took a couple of heavy challenges. He may struggle to be fit for this game.
Robinson was only able to name six subs on Tuesday, and the Addicks may again be short of numbers on the bench.
The team could look something like this:
Amos; Konsa, Lennon, Sarr, Dasilva; Kashi, Jackson, Reeves, Aribo, Ahearne-Grant; Magennis.
Subs: Phillips, Dijksteel, Lapslie, Hackett-Fairchild, Dodoo.
Trevor Kettle from Rutland will be the referee.
Football never ceases to surprise you, but it is hard to see Charlton taking anything from this game.
