The Becks continued where they left the 13/14 season by winning silverware after a convincing 3-0 win over last season’s Southern Counties East Football League winners Whyteleafe.
The Becks, visiting Ryman League side Whyteleafe – who now play on the same artificial surface used by Maidstone United – adapted the better.
The Becks took the lead after only seven minutes when good pressure by Damien Ramsamy forced a free kick on the left edge of penalty area – Alfie Nunn heading in at the far post after an inviting inswinger by Jamie Humphries.
The hosts responded quickly but Sam Clayton could only head wide when well placed in front of goal.
The Becks were unlucky not to extend their lead just after the quarter of an hour mark – Firstly Steve McNamara’s left footed free kick came off the underside of the crossbar, with no player disputing whether it bounced over the line, then Ed Walker played the ball to Ramsamy but his well struck effort went narrowly over.
With the Becks struggling to deservedly extend their dominance, the hosts reminded them of their precarious one-goal lead on the half hour when Greg Andrews struck a free kick from almost 30 yards out just wide of the motionless Dillon Barnes’ right hand post.
The Becks then converted their dominance to goals going two-nil up with a free kick of their own, scored by Adam Watmore, beating the hosts’ ‘keeper low to his right.
In a feisty opening to the second half Whyteleafe started the half the better with Roscoe D’Sane having two efforts on goal but The Becks defence was equal to them, blocking each out for corners.
On the hour mark good work by Walker running at the hosts’ defence resulted in a good save by Whyteleafe’s sub ‘keeper Sheikh Ceesay from a shot of the edge of the box by Ramsamy – The resulting corner was mishit wide by Humphries.
Just after the hour mark Ramsamy broke clear after dispossessing Dylan Merchantbut his curling shot from the left edge of the box, past the advancing Ceesay, fell harmlessly wide of the left hand post.
Moments later The Becks had more chances on goal in quick succession with Humphries shooting tamely at Ceesay when well placed in front of goal, a McNamara shot well saved by Ceesay with his legs and Walker curling a shot wide from the left side of the penalty area.
With twenty minutes remaining The Becks extended their lead – James Britnell’s run into the box was illegally stopped – McNamara converting the spot kick, sending ‘keeper Ceesay the wrong way.
Frankie Warren had the chance for The Becks’ fourth with just over five minutes remaining but could only head straight at Ceesay after good work on the left by Humphries.
