At the annual Banquet & Ball of the Ryman League last weekend, in the presence of over 500 guests including principle & other sponsors, Ryman Stationers Group Chairman Theo Paphitis & CEO Kypros Kyprianou added their personal congratulations to Whitstable Town FC Chairman (Gary Johnson) along with those of the Leagues own President & Chairman Alan Turvey as Town were awarded the coveted ‘Barry East Trophy’.

The award celebrates ‘an outstanding Club achievement & or personal contribution’ within The Isthmian Football League.

Previous winners have included now Football League Clubs Dagenham & Redbridge and Wycombe Wanderers, along with Theo Paphitis himself (2009-10) & last year’s winners Hastings United whom reached the FA Cup 3rd Rd.

This most celebrated award, was presented to Whitstable Town for the incredible feat of being the lowest ranked Club whom won through to the last 32 Teams of the FA Trophy, only to be knocked out by Conference side Ebbsfleet United and in the process generated much positive publicity for both themselves, their principle sponsors Budgens of Whitstable and of course the Ryman Football League for whom they were the last Team standing!

Chairman & League Director Gary Johnson was overjoyed to collect this award in front of so many honoured guests & peers and whilst this crowned a disappointing league season it did recognise the efforts of all connected to Whitstable Town.

Johnson commented “It was amazing that we were recognised in such a public way, I was shocked but very, very pleased of course to receive the award on behalf of all associated with the Club; last season’s FA Trophy success & subsequent publicity really lifted the spirits in the camp in what was an otherwise difficult season.”

“It’s a great reflection on last terms players, staff & of course the Volunteers & fans for whom the travelling support is the envy of the majority of Clubs and for whom we also receive such acclaim……this success & subsequent profile helps retain major sponsors such as Budgens of Whitstable & I hope help attract other new sponsors too’
