Whitstable and Faversham produced a great game in front of a festive crowd of 1,112 a record for Whitstable at this level, in what was a great advert for the SCEFL.
The game started with Whitstable creating the first chance of the game when in the 4th minute a long ball forward deflected for Josh Williams who raced into the area, his shot was saved by Lewis Briggs but came out to Harvey Smith but he blasted the ball over the bar.
In the 14th minute Faversham had their first chance when Josh Vincent saw his 25-yard free kick punched away by Dan Eason, then two minutes later a breakaway by Emmanuel Oloyede who passed to Josh Oliver in area, his shot was tipped around the post by Briggs.
In the 19th minute Faversham had a breakaway when Nathan Wood running forward put Stefan Payne in, his shot was saved by Eason.
Faversham took the lead in the 22nd minute probably against the run of play when Billy Bennett on the edge of the area curled his shot past Eason.
Faversham gained a lot of confidence from the goal and three minutes later Vincent saw his cross evade everyone except Kieron Campbell at the far post, his shot from six yards was saved by Eason.
In the 37th minute Whitstable nearly got an equaliser when Oloyede twisting, turning in the area eventually saw his shot saved by Briggs but came back to him but he shot over the bar. In the first minute of added on time Faversham doubled their lead when a corner into the six-yard box was headed in by Bennett.
The second half started with Faversham having the first chance, in the 51st minute Matt Parsons on the overlap crossed low and Payne’s flicked shot was deflected past the post.
Five minutes later Oliver on the left put through into the area, his shot was saved by Briggs and cleared. In the 66th minute Whitstable got a goal back when Williams on the right ran at the defenders before cutting inside, his shot beat Briggs game on.
Nine minutes later a cross into the area Oloyede stretching saw his header saved by Briggs. Whitstable were now searching for the equaliser while Faversham were looking to hold on and the equaliser came in the first minute of added on time when a low cross from the right was deflected into his net by Josh Vincent.
As the game was coming to a close it looked like both teams would settle for a point but in the fifth minute of added on time Tyler Anderson was put through into the area, from 15 yards his shot beat Briggs but hit the post. Whitstable would rue this chance while Faversham would be relieved.
