Whitstable Town bowed out of the FA Cup against a Bognor Regis Town side who were 33 places above them in the league pyramid, and boasted players from Portsmouth and Brighton in their starting eleven.
Bognor got off the best start when in the 6th minute a ball forward found James Muitt in the area 15 yards out, his half volley went over Dan Eason’s head into the goal, in the very next minute Whitstable had a half chance to equalise when a John Walker free kick into the area was headed over the bar by Jai McKinley.
In the 10th minute Chris Saunders latched onto the ball and from 20 yards saw his shot go past the post. Bognor nearly increased their lead in the 13th minute when Muitt in the area received the ball, and from an acute angle saw his shot go across the area.
Three minutes later Muitt again causing problems with his movement was on the left wing cut in, from 20 yards saw his curling effort pushed over the bar by Eason.
In the 22nd minute they did increase their lead when a free kick wide on the right taken by Whyte was passed low into the path of Muitt whose first time shot from 10 yards hit the back of the net.
Bognor were now dominating possession and looked like they could score more, but in the 26th minute Jordan Wright’s cross into the area found Tom Walmesley who chested it down, and from 10 yards saw his shot pushed away by Dan Lincoln.
In the next 5 minutes Eason came to Whitstable’s rescue when in the 30th minute he pushed a free kick by Calvin Davies round the post for a corner, from the resulting corner he pushed away another shot from 25 yards by Davies.
In the 35th minute a short corner ended up at Dan Smith’s feet, his shot from 6 yards from an acute angle was saved by Eason. In the 41st minute against the run of play the ball forward fell to Ricky Freeman, his turn and volley went just over the bar.
The half time whistle went, Whitstable had not disgraced themselves but needed to get more of the ball to trouble the Bognor defence.
Bognor came out for the second half and picked up where they had left off, in the 49th minute Muitt went on a mazy run, then from 20 yards saw Eason parry it out but in the next minute they went three up when Muitt on the right wing passed to Bradley Lethbridge in the area and from 6 yards he smashed it past Eason.
A minute later it could and maybe should have been four when firstly Lethbridge saw his shot pushed away by Eason but only to Muitt whose shot was pushed out again by Eason.
In the 55th minute they scored their fourth when Lethbridge running forward passed into the path of Smith who from 8 yards shot in.
Bognor were in total control, for Whitstable it now became damage limitations. In the 63rd minute Tommy Scutt picked up a loose ball and from 20 yards saw his shot pushed away by Eason.
Four minutes later the ball in the Whitstable area was like pinball , eventually it came out to Scutt and from 3 yards out Eason again saved it.
In the 73rd minute came the goal of the game when Mason Walsh picked up the ball, he then saw his blockbuster of a shot from 20 yards fly into net beating Eason.
In the 81st minute Muitt in the area looking to get a hat trick saw his effort saved by Eason again. The final whistle went and Bognor progress to the next round but for Dan Eason in the Whitstable goal it could have been a lot more.
