Whitehawk 1-2 Bromley

Bromley secured another vital three points to preserve their lead at the top of the table with a fantastic second half performance thanks to a double from Bradley Goldberg and a fine penalty save from Joe Welch.Bromley

In tricky conditions on a sloping and heavy pitch Bromley struggled in the first half and it was the home side who created the better chances with Joe Welch tipping over a Danny Mills header early on.

The Ravens cleared a goalmouth scramble off the line and had to weather the storm as the Hawks pressed for long periods.

Whitehawk got their breakthrough on 34 minutes when David da Silva found space on the edge of the box and finished smartly past Welch from ten yards.

Bromley looked leggy and struggled to break down the solid home defence marshalled by the experienced Matt Lawrence and Sammy El Abd. It seemed the long unbeaten run may be coming to an end at the break.

The second half began with The Hawks on top again and they further looked to be in charge when Welch was judged to have brought down Danny Mills for a penalty.

Welch was booked, but managed to redeem himself with a fine save from Mills’ spot kick.

Then on the hour with Bromley finally looking like a team who was top of the table, Bradley Goldberg pounded on a half chance from six yards out and made it 1-1 with his first real chance of the game.

Mark Goldberg made three changes and the extra energy saw The Ravens continue to press and they took the lead on 73 minutes when Goldberg found space just outside the box and crashed home a superb strike past Chris Winterton into the roof of the net for 2-1.

For a spell Bromley looked like they may extend their lead before the home side battled back and finished strongly with Mills bundling the ball just wide after a series of set pieces.

In injury time El Abd was show a second yellow card for an elbow as The Hawks frustration boiled over at not being able to impose their style on a resolute Bromley.
