On Saturday, Welling United travel to Somerset to play Weston-super-Mare in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Although still in the bottom three, the Wings gave themselves a massive boost last Saturday when thumping runaway league leaders Yeovil Town four-one despite conceding first.
Kain Adom levelled with one of his specials before Tristan Abrahams scored a quick-fire hat-trick early in the second half.
Now Welling manager Danny Bloor will be looking to build on that with the first of two consecutive tricky away games. The task won’t be made any easier by central defensive issues.
Mitchell Dickenson is a long term casualty, Jack Burchell isn’t expected to be ready to return, and Taylor Curran is likely to be absent for a spell with a hamstring injury, so Bloor may need to be creative with his team selection.
Saturday’s hosts, Weston, play an entertaining passing game, moving the ball from back to front with slick passing moves. They have won their last three league and cup games, however, five of their seven league wins this season have been recorded on the road.
Their two home victories were against Havant and Waterlooville, on the opening day of the season, and Torquay United.
This is Weston’s first season back in the league following their promotion from the Southern League South having been relegated from the National League South in 2019.
In that season, Welling won one-nil in the Woodspring Stadium courtesy of a second half Bradley Goldberg penalty.
Bloor would welcome a similar result on Saturday but he knows that it will be a tough task with Dayle Grubb likely to be pulling the strings for the hosts.
