Wells couldn’t be happier

Darcy Wells was one of three hat-trick heroes for Chatham Town Women in the FA Cup.

They romped into the First Round Proper of the Adobe Womens FA Cup with a resounding win over Horsham at the Bauvill.

Hat-tricks for twins Amelia and Maddy Woodgate along with goals from Lottie Sharp, Oti Charles and Olivia McGregor sealed the ladies biggest win for some time as well as a third hat-trick from midfielder Darcy Wells, who spoke to KSN after the game.

Wells who completed her personal treble on the stoke of half time as she bundled home Lucy Jones corner dismissed any question over the goal – which was the home sides nineth of the afternoon.

“Really enjoyed the three goals today – the first one finish at the back post, second one finish after keeper parried the ball back out, and I am claiming the third one,”

Wells said defiantly with a huge grin on her face as she continued, “Lucy (Jones) crossed it in from the corner and I am claiming it, not sure if it came off my head or hand but I’m claiming it a goals a goal and it means a hat-trick and I couldn’t be happier!”

The home side dominated and were nine nil ahead by the break. Amelia Woodgate set the ball rolling after netting from a pass from her sister, Lottie Sharp made it two with a super drive, before Maddy Woodgate accepted a gift from the Horsham keeper after a dreadful clearance to make it three.

Maddy Woodgate then made it four after Sharp’s effort had come back off both bar and post before Wells netted her first again with Maddy Woodgate the provider. Amelia Woodgate then went through for her second and the Chats sixth; Wells hammered home number seven, whilst Amelia Woodgate completed her first half hat-trick turning home a centred ball. Wells then bundled home number nine on the stroke of the break to cap off a really good opening period for the hosts.

The second period “only” saw three more which is a massive credit to Horsham who play three levels lower than the Chats, but Maddy Woodgate deservedly got her own personal treble, Ori Charles netted the goal of the game volleying home a right-wing centre and Olivia McGregor finished off the scoring as she side footed home number twelve.

Reflecting on the game afterwards, Wells said, “Getting on the scoresheet three times is so sweet. The team and the squad that we have now is good in depth, we have some great youngsters many of them got important minutes in the Cup game. We’re all so proud of what was a really good performance at the weekend.”

“Last season was so much harder that I thought it was going to be as I came from a Tier five squad into a tier three one was really hard. But I’ve known Keith (Boanas the Chatham Womens boss) and to have him believe in me was a massive thing for me and built my confidence back up again was great.”

“Playing me in the “number ten” is probably my favourite position. I love getting on the ball, I love turning, I love creating chances and scoring them – definitely my favourite position.”

“We bounced back well today after last week,” Wells continued referring to the abandonment of the teams last League game at London Seaward the week before after a horrific injury sustained by a home defender brough a premature end to proceedings.

Wells told us, “It was massive for us to win the Cup tie as it means more money for the Club and we’re into the next round and we’re all so proud of the way that the youngsters played. We’ve haven’t got a League game next weekend and so it really is a good time to take stock and then go again.”

Mondays draw saw the Chats handed another lower ranked side – Dorking Wanderers Women in the First-Round proper to be played at the Bauvill on Sunday 2nd November.
