Welling United look forward to a rare Saturday home game with the visit of Nuneaton Town.
Over the last three matches, Welling have been the better team against Dartford, dominated at Chester and outplayed Kidderminster at the Aggborough. The stark reality, however, is that Welling have picked up just two points out of a possible nine over this spell and are now just one point above the bottom four.
Visitors Nuneaton Town have made a management change and their players will look to impress former Ebbsfleet and Welling boss Liam Daish. His first signing, Onome Sodje, will not be a stranger to Park View Road havin represented the Wings earlier in his career.
Sodje got his Nuneaton career off to a flying start by scoring after just sixteen minutes of his Boro debut on Tuesday in a 3-2 victory over Dover Athletic, which was their second win in four days. Although still four places below Welling, only one point separates the two clubs.
Away from home, Nuneaton’s form is not great. They claimed their only point from a goalless draw at Grimsby Town and have lost six away games on the trot since. In that time they have scored just once on the road in a 3-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers.
Jake Gallagher, having served a one match ban, will be available for selection for thr Wings but Loui Fazakerley took a kick on the knee and his participation must be in doubt.
In last season’s corresponding fixture, Welling blew a one goal lead. All looked fine when Ross Lafayette converted a 53rd minute penalty but James Armson equalised two minutes later. Freddie Ladapo scored a shock winner in injury time.
Both teams will look at this match as a must win as the victors will give themselves some breathing space above the relegation zone.
