This Saturday Welling United entertain Kidderminster Harriers in a crucial game in their fight against relegation.

FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

However, although it is important for that reason, the club has not lost sight of the fact that there is more to life than football and this match is part of their ‘Ladies Day’ on which they will be raising awareness and funds for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

All ladies and girls will be admitted free of charge and will have the opportunity to learn more about the trust and its work. There will be an information stand with materials provided by the charity ranging on information on HPV to cervical screening or being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Happily, the Conference board have agreed to the Wings wearing a one off kit and they will take to the field wearing pink shirts and shorts, Supporters of the club have also got behind the initiative, and sponsors have been found for every player’s shirt with all proceeds going to the trust.

Manager Loui Fazakerley will work hard to ensure that his players are not distracted. They are six points behind Alfreton Town, but have a game in hand and still have to visit the Derbyshire club so a storming finish could yet see them escape.

After the games against promotion hopefuls Woking and Eastleigh, which could have easily yielded more points for the Wings, Fazakerley remains positive. “We’ve got to have confidence whoever we come up against that we can give them problems. We’ve got goals in the team. We’ll go into the (Kidderminster) game looking to win the game.”

Unfortunately, they will have to make do without Joe Healy and Ben Jefford for the next two games as both picked up their tenth yellow card of the season on Easter Monday.

They will have Chris Bush available following the completion of his three match suspension and Michael Chambers should be ready to return following his illness.

Kidderminster, with no chance of making the play-offs or going down, beefed up their squad   before the closure of the loan market by bringing in Nathaniel Kelly and James Fry, both of whom are due to be released by Birmingham City in the summer so will be keen to impress.

They also brought in centre-half William Boyle from Huddersfield Town to strengthen their defence.

When the two teams met at Aggborough Stadium earlier in the season, the BT Sport cameras were on hand to broadcast a 2-1 victory for the Harriers. Craig Reid gave the hosts an early lead then Cheyenne Dunkley added a second before the break, aided by a big deflection.

Harry Beautyman pulled one back eight minutes into the second half but as hard as they tried, Welling were unable to claim an equaliser.
