After Saturday’s draw, it seems that Tuesday’s replay may see both Welling United and Ebbsfleet United playing under new managers.

FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

Jamie Day, Barry Ashby and Dean Frost will take their seats in the away dugout for the first time however it may be different for Welling United.

If a new manager is in place, he may prefer to watch his first match from the stand and take over properly when the Wings host Aldershot Town on Saturday on a slightly less emotional day.

Jamie Turner and team captain Jake Gallagher (currently suspended from playing) took the helm for Welling on Saturday and may be asked to do so for the replay.

As if the drama off the pitch wasn’t enough, there was controversy on it too. The Fleet were unhappy about the award of the penalty award with which gave Kieron St. Aimie the invitation to put Welling ahead.

Then the Wings were incensed by the sending off of Joey Taylor when he appeared to have been fouled. Anthony Acheampong equalised for the Fleet when Welling failed to clear the free kick.

The second half was a quieter affair and chances were few and far between. A replay was almost inevitable.

Unless Welling appeal successfully against the Taylor dismissal, they will be down to the bare bones. They may look to extend Michael Chambers loan period and hope that the injury that had kept him out on Saturday has cleared up.

Joe Howe will be keen to return to the starting line up having served a one match ban, and Day may also restore Daryl McMahon to the first eleven following his spell as caretaker manager.

Once again, off the field events may overshadow what happens on the pitch and both clubs will be keen to get this match out of the way and to concentrate on their major objectives.
