Welling United vs Farnborough – Preview

Following their F.A. Cup exploits Welling United return to National League South action when entertaining Farnborough.

Having successfully negotiated their third qualifying round replay against Gosport Borough, Danny Bloor’s team now returns to the important matter of climbing away from the lower reaches of the league table.

On Wednesday night, braces from Tristan Abrahams and Crossley Lema helped them to negotiate a tricky cup tie. In their last league game, they visited Eastbourne Borough where they would probably have taken a point before the game but were disappointed to concede a late equaliser to take the game to two apiece.

Having gone behind in first half stoppage time, they equalised through Jephte Tanga before Abrahams put them ahead but they had to settle for a point when Remy Shiloh scored with four minutes remaining.

Any F.A. Cup dreams that Farnborough might have had were ended when they were defeated at home to Weston-super-Mare one-nil on Saturday. In the league they are in mid-table with three wins, four draws, and three defeats. Their last league success was at the start of September when defeating Hampton and Richmond Borough by three goals to one.

Last time out, the drew two all at home to Slough Town with former Wing Taylor Maloney on the scoresheet. Away from home, their record is drawn two and lost three having claimed points at Dartford and Braintree Town and coming home empty handed from Chelmsford City, Truro City and Torquay United.

In last season’s corresponding fixture in December, the visitors won two-one. Hisham Kasimu

gave them a half time lead, but when Stefan Payne levelled for the Wings, with twelve minutes remaining, it appeared that they would get a deserved draw. However, Farnborough had other ideas and won it in the fourth minute of stoppage time through a goal Oliver Pendlebury.
