Welling United are in action again at Park View Road this weekend hoping to start re-building the reputation of their home ground being a fortress.Welling United

The last two home games have been disastrous for the Wings. Last Friday they were held at home by second to bottom Dartford before they suffered by being the first team to lose to Skrill Premier basement club Hyde on Tuesday night.

One goal, from the penalty spot, in the 180 minutes of football outlined a major cause for concern but Jamie Day and his management team will be working hard to remind the players that they were not and are not a bad side.

Regular injuries have not helped the Wings cause and on Tuesday night they were forced to play six defenders in the starting line up.

Day has been trying to reinforce his squad but is struggling to bring in the type of player he wants within the clubs’ wage structure.

Visitors Woking come into the game on the back of a one-nil victory over Braintree Town and are three points behind the Wings.

Earlier in the season, Welling enjoyed a 4-2 victory at the Kingfield Stadium. A glorious first thirty minutes saw Welling burst into a three goal lead through an Aaron Howe own goal, Doug Bergqvist and Harry Beautyman.

Brett Johnson pulled one back for Woking on 38 minutes but their cause wasn’t helped when former Wings captain Jack Parkinson was sent off for a second bookable offence. Loick Pires, back after a season with Woking, put Welling 4-1 up and although Joe McNerney reduced the arrears two minutes later, Welling held on for a comfortable victory.

Both clubs will be eager to pick up the three points available and Welling have called on their supporters to get behind the team from the start to help them put the last week behind them.
