After two away draws, Welling United return to Park View Road against Wealdstone.
Until the beginning of December, Welling had not enjoyed a weekend home league win all year, but their victory over Bath City commenced a run of five consecutive successes and the Wings will hope to make it six on Saturday.
Those fifteen points have helped them out of the Vanarama National League South relegation zone with an eight point buffer.
On Tuesday night at Bishop’s Stortford, Welling were hampered by the absence of Rickie Hayles and Dean Leacock, two of the three centre backs in that squad. That meant that Danny Waldren had to play at centre back robbing the Wings of their box to box midfielder.
At least one, if not both, should be available on Saturday so Welling can revert to a more familiar formation.
Vas Karagiannis, on loan from Maidstone United, celebrated his second Welling debut with a goal on Tuesday night and Rhys Murrell-Williamson, from Dulwich Hamlet, came on as a second half substitute to give extra options.
However, the biggest challenge for co-caretaker managers Tristan Lewis and Harry Wheeler, will be how they replace Adam Coombes on his departure to Sutton United. He scored 20 league goals, 34 in all games.
Visitors Wealdstone will be looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat that Welling inflicted on them earlier in the season when Waldren pressurised Elliott Godfrey into heading Archie Johnson’s cross into his own net.
Away from home, the Stones visit Welling on the back of a 1-0 victory at Margate. They have only played three league away games since November, the other two being a 1-1 draw at Poole Town and a 2-0 defeat at Maidenhead United on New Year’s Day.
They can also boast an F.A. Trophy 2-1 win at Vanarama National League Southport so Welling will need to be on the top of their game if they are to extend their run of home wins.
