On Saturday afternoon, Welling United are in Vanarama National League South action when they host Taunton Town.
Their disappointing defeats to Weymouth and Farnborough in their last two home games have left them in the bottom half of the table.
They were second best for large parts of the match with Farnborough although they were still left to lick their wounds when conceding the winner with ten seconds of injury time remaining.
Stefan Payne had levelled after Jack Turner was unable to hold Yaser Kasim’s shot, and Welling were livelier after that. However, they couldn’t grab a second and conceded with no time to respond.
One positive was that striker Daniel Nkrumah came on as a substitute and looked sharp. He is on a one-month loan from Leyton Orient and gives Wings manager Warren Feeney cover with Ade Azeez on the mend after sustaining an injury at Bath City last Friday.
It will be the first ever visit to Park View Road for visitors Taunton Town who are settling in for their first season at Non-League step two. Their first game at this level was the curtain raiser on a warm Saturday in August against Welling United. That game ended nil-nil.
Since then, they have looked comfortable in their new surroundings, especially at home where they remain unbeaten. Away from home, the Somerset based team have not found it quite as straight-forward. They have won just once, at Hungerford Town, drawn three and lost five.
Not only are they enjoying their league campaign, but they also had an F.A. Cup run to the first round, having beaten Yeovil Town in a fourth qualifying round replay, and are still in the F.A. Trophy following victory over Dulwich Hamlet.
Feeney will want his team to find their early season form to get their season back on track otherwise they could find themselves looking nervously over their shoulders.
