On Saturday, Welling United have another challenge when hosting St Albans City in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Warren Feeney’s Welling’s team are unbeaten in six league games and will be looking to extend their run but will know that they won’t have it easy against the Saints. Although the Wings are six places ahead in the National League South, there is only a difference of three points following their guests’ win against Concord Rangers on Tuesday night.
Welling did not have a midweek game and their last outing was last Saturday at Hampton and Richmond Borough. That was a game of two penalties with Taylor Maloney converting for the Wings in the first half, and Tommy Block levelling for the hosts from the spot three minutes after the break.
Away from home, St Albans have won three, drawn one and lost just one, their most recent game at Braintree Town. David Noble is currently interim manager following the end of Ian Allinson’s long spell in charge.
In the corresponding game last season, Alex Lankshear put the Saints ahead in the second minute but Danny Parish levelled three minutes later. Ade Shokunbi put Welling ahead five minutes before the break, but their lead lasted less than a minute as Romeo Akinola finished well.
Twenty minutes into the second half, the visitors claimed the three points via a goal from Joy Mukena. That was their third consecutive league win at Park View Road and Welling will be looking to end their winless league streak at home to the Saints that stretches back to February 2018.
