Aiming to end their win-less run, Welling United entertain Slough Town in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Danny Bloor’s Wings have drawn their last four league matches, and have only lost three times since defeating Tonbridge Angels on August Bank Holiday Monday.
It has been a tough spell for the Wings as they have only been outplayed twice all season so Bloor knows that he is not far away from a successful formula.
On Tuesday evening it appeared that the run might end when the Wings went two up in the first half hour. Jephte Tanga opened the scoring an TJ Bramble added a second, both assisted by Kain Adom.
However, Dover pulled one back early in the second period. They then hit the bar and missed an open goal before equalising deep into injury time. Although it was tough conceding so late, it was a fair result overall.
At the same time, Slough were ending their own run of five games without a win by defeating Truro City four-nil. They were also not losing as four of those games were draws.
Overall, they have won four, drawn four and lost seven, and are three points and three places above the Wings. They are still in the F.A. Cup and have a replay with Grimsby Town awaiting them on Tuesday evening.
Last season’s corresponding fixture was an uneventful nil-nil draw. In the return match in Berkshire, the Wings won three-nil with the help of a George Alexander hat-trick.
So impressed were Slough that when his loan spell at Welling ended, they snapped him up until the end of the season and he is back at the club on another loan from Bromley until January 2024.
