Welling United’s Park View Road hosts the third game in five days when Welling United entertain Hyde tonight.Welling United

On Friday evening, Welling were held by Dartford, then Erith and Belvedere drew with Wroxham on Saturday.

Barry Hobbins and his helpers have done a great job in making the pitch playable and the rain that has fallen since won’t be Welling manager Jamie Day’s greatest worry heading into this game.

An injury sustained by leading scorer Ross Lafayette in the game against Dartford will have been a bigger cause for concern for Day. Having brought the Wings level from the spot, he went down heavily and called to be replaced immediately.

Baily Cargill also had to be substituted at half time and Day left the field limping but both are hopeful of a speedy recovery. Blaine Hudson will be available again, following his one match suspension, and the return of Loui Fazakerley means that the Wings’ manager has options should either fail to recover in time.

After the game on Friday, Day admitted that he had been looking at bringing in reinforcements but that a couple of players in whom he was interested had wage demands above the clubs’ structure.

He had also enquired about taking Andy Pugh on loan from Cambridge United but that his parent club wanted him to go to Dartford as part of the deal that saw Rory McAuley start a spell there.

Day is talking to other players but it might be leaving it tight to get anyone registered to bolster the squad in time for the Hyde game.

Hyde are experiencing a tough season and their draw at Southport on Saturday earned them just their fourth point of the season. It would be foolish to take the Tigers lightly though as Welling were made to fight all the way for a hard earned 1-0 win at Ewen Fields in September, courtesy of a goal by Joe Healy.
