On Saturday, Welling United host Hungerford Town in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Warren Feeney’s Welling’s team had a great result in obtaining a draw at Ebbsfleet United last Saturday but were unable to follow it through when visiting Braintree Town three nights later.
That defeat was Welling’s sixth league game without a win following their unbeaten September, and they have now dropped to eleventh place in the league table.
Their Saturday opponents Hungerford have been play-off challengers for the last few seasons but are struggling this time around. They are in the penultimate league spot at present having lost two-one at home to fellow strugglers Cheshunt on Tuesday evening.
Away from home, they have won one, drawn one and lost five, however, their victory was at promotion chasing Bath City earlier this month, when they won three-two.
In the corresponding game last season, the curtain opener, the Crusaders won four-one. Simo Mbonkwi put them ahead in the sixth minute and added a second on the thirty-minute mark. Ade Shokunbi gave Welling hope with a goal five minutes before the break, but Ryan Seager converted a penalty in first half stoppage time.
Mbonkwi completed his hat-trick ten minutes after the break and Hungerford saw the game out in comfort.
James Dunne and Stefan Payne will be absent suspended for the Wings, and both Aaron Barnes and Miles Roberts are injured. Feeney will hope that Jamie Sendles-White is fit to return but he has a strong squad and will utilise them to the full.
