On Saturday afternoon, Welling United host Havant and Waterloovile in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
This will present a real challenge to the Wings as, so far this season, Havant have won all bar one league game, when they drew at Braintree Town in the second week of the season.
However, much improved Welling will be equally keen to prove a challenge for the Hawks.
Although manager Warren Feeney has stated that his team have exceeded his expectations in recent league games, and are ahead of where he expected them to be, this game might give him a true reflection of just how good his team is.
In recent league games, Welling his team have shown that they are anything but one dimensional.
They blew in-form Oxford City away with a resounding five-nil trouncing courtesy of a hat-trick by Ade Azeez and a brace from Stefan Payne. Then they went to Eastbourne Borough for a Tuesday night fixture and had to dig deep to grind out a one-nil win, Payne again being the man on target.
Since then, they have played Fisher in the F.A. Cup and, despite the chasm between the clubs in league placings, it took a replay away for Welling to prevail having been held to a goal-less draw.
Last season’s meeting between Welling and Havant at Park View Road was highly controversial with the visitors equalising in the seventh minute of five added.
At that point, there was doom and gloom around the ground as it looked as though that might have cost the Wings their place in the National League South, however they recovered to stay up. This time around, it’s two form teams going toe-to-toe and it could be a real cracker.
