Floodlight football returns to Park View Road on Tuesday evening in a rearranged fixture when Welling United host Hampton and Richmond Borough in the Vanarama National League South.
On Saturday, Welling were defeated three-one away to league leaders Torquay United but the final score was far from a true reflection of the game. It looked as if it was going to be a long afternoon when the hosts went ahead in the third minute, and Sam Cornish was forced off with an injury four minutes later.
However, the Wings held their own for the rest of the first half before taking the game to their hosts after the break. TJ Bramble scored a well deserved equaliser and, it was against the run of play when the Gulls went back ahead with fourteen minutes remaining. Torquay scored again with one minute left on the clock, which was very harsh on Rod Stringer’s team.
Icy conditions put paid to thirteenth placed Hampton’s scheduled game at Boreham Wood on Saturday. Their last game was seven days earlier when losing two nil at home to Spennymoor Town in the fourth round of the F.A. Trophy. Their New Year’s Day match was also called off so they have not played a league match since their goal-less draw at Farnborough on Boxing Day.
Their away form is pretty decent with three wins, five draws and three losses and they have a solid defence with the fourth meanest back line in the division.

When Welling hosted Hampton last season, it was also on a Tuesday night in January and the Wings’ first game under the Stringer/Watson regime. Dean Inman put the visitors ahead just before half time before Adam Roscrow levelled nine minutes after the break.
Tristan Abrahams was then sent off which might have caused the Wings to sit back and protect their point but instead they went on the front foot and Lachlan Byrd scored what turned out to be the winner nineteen minutes before the end.
