Welling United v Ebbsfleet United preview

Welling United host Ebbsfleet United at Park View Road in a Tuesday evening Vanarama National League South fixture.

Both were in action on Saturday with very different outcomes. The Wings suffered their heaviest defeat since being relegated from the National League when they were trounced five-nil at Dorking Wanderers.

However. The Fleet were involved in a match that saw five red cards shown which included both managers being sent off when they visited Havant and Waterlooville. For the last half an hour, they only had nine on the pitch to Havant’s ten but they still managed to score the winner with eleven minutes remaining.

Rakish Bingham put Ebbsfleet ahead in just the fourth minute before manager Dennis Kutrieb and his counterpart Paul Doswell had a heated exchange that resulted in both being dismissed. Four minutes into the second half former Welling and Ebbsfleet striker Danny Kedwell was involved in the build up for the leveller.

Both teams were reduced to ten when Havant midfielder Theo Widdrington went through Chris Solly and the Fleet midfielder retaliated resulting in a red card apiece. Three minutes later, Lee Martin was shown a second yellow card but short-handed Ebbsfleet claimed the three points when Dom Poleon fired home.

The match between Welling and Ebbsfleet will be an interesting evening for new Wings manager Steve Lovell as his previous role was as Director of Football at Ebbsfleet. It will be his first home game in the dugout and incredibly, only Welling’s fifth of the season. Their home record hasn’t been great with one draw and three defeats.

Away from home, Ebbsfleet have won five and drawn two of their ten games, and have won both of their games since the two week league break. For Lovell it has been a baptism of fire with away games at the top two teams in the league which have yielded the one point at Dartford.
