After Saturday’s disappointing performance at Macclesfield Town, Welling United have a quick opportunity to get it out of their system when entertaining Eastleigh at Park View Road.
Having won their first two games of this season (4-0 at Southport and 1-0 v Boreham Wood), it came as a bit of a surprise that the Spitfires were held 1-1 by Lincoln City on Saturday. They are one of the bookmakers’ favourites for promotion following their strong first season showing and summer recruitment.
James Constable will need to be watched, having scored in all three matches so far, however the visitors will have to cope without Michael Green who was shown a red card for his dismissal on Saturday for a foul that probably preserved his team’s point.
Manager Loui Fazakerley has warned the players about the need to raise their game. “We broke it down in the changing rooms. It’s a matter of the players going away and analysing their performances. We need to start fast on Tuesday otherwise Eastleigh will punish us.”
New loan signing, Harry Lee, looked lively when coming on at Macclesfield and may be given a full Wings debut.
In the corresponding fixture four months ago, Eastleigh claimed the three points. Jai Reason put the Spitfires ahead in just the sixth minute but Harry Osborne headed home Ben Jefford’s corner on the half hour. Jamie Turley grabbed the winner with fifteen minutes remaining.
Eastleigh have a good record at Park View Road, but there is a special atmosphere there in midweek games and if the players show the bravery and intensity that Fazakerley demands there is no reason why they cannot add to their first day home win.
