Welling United v Eastbourne Borough preview

On Tuesday evening, Welling United entertain Eastbourne Borough looking to put their weekend display behind them.

Saturday’s visit to Concord Rangers resulted in a three-nil defeat in their worst display since they lost four-one at East Thurrock United towards the end of last season.

They started reasonably well and Bradley Goldberg had a couple of chances before poor defending allowed the hosts to go ahead. Joel Nouble used his pace and power to fend off three half hearted tackles before crossing to an unmarked Lamar Reynolds who side footed home via the far post.

Any hope that Welling would raise their game in the second half were dashed when Nouble and Kreshnic Krasniqi put the game out of sight.

Welling manager Mark Goldberg said afterwards “I digest everything. I’m more than likely going to make changes (against Eastbourne)”. Luke Rooney is fit again and Jack Jebb may be ready for a return but it may be too soon for Connor Dymond who dislocated his shoulder last weekend at Chelmsford.

It was a happier afternoon for the Sports. They hammered Hampton and Richmond four-one with former Wing Elliott Romain scoring a hat-trick. That was just their second win of the season and now they will be looking for their first away success on the road having drawn two and lost two so far. In fact, they are yet to score on the road.

Their draws were nil-nil at Maidstone United and at Havant and Waterlooville. Thy lost one-nil at Billericay Town on opening date, and five-nil at Braintree Town.

When the two teams met at Park View Road last season, Welling had to work hard and keep patient to claim the three points. It took a Brendan Kiernan penalty with fifteen minutes remaining to win the game.
