Welling United v Dulwich Hamlet preview

Having seen their mini winning run ended last weekend Welling United will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Dulwich Hamlet in the Vanarama National League South.

However, they are not the only team that are looking to get back to winning ways. While Welling were losing three-two at Worthing, Dulwich were also being beaten to end a six-match league and cup run.

They suffered a four-one loss at home to Farnborough. Any hopes of a recovery after being three down at half time were dashed when they conceded another immediately after the break.

Former Wing Danny Mills pulled one back in the second period but it proved to be no more than a consolation.

On Tuesday night, they rotated their squad but still put out a team that their manager, Paul Barnes, expected to be good enough to win in their London Senior Cup match at Wingate and Finchley.

That did not prove to be the case. They conceded just before the break then suffered going down to ten men when Ronnie Vint was sent off.

Three goals in twelve minutes from just after the hour mark put the game beyond the visitors grasp.

Johl Powell pulled one back with ten minutes remaining but Andre Blackman’s dismissal six minutes later left them down to nine men and they let in another in stoppage time.

At present, the Wings are in thirteenth place in the table, with Dulwich three places lower.

However, the visitors are only four points behind and have played two games fewer.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. When they met at Champion Hill on August Bank Holiday Monday, the Wings were in good form and were gifted a goal in the second minute when Frankie Raymond sliced into his own net. Amadou Kassarate made it two, just before the break, and although former Wing Danny Mills pulled one back, Dulwich never looked like equalising.

Last season’s corresponding game at Park View Road was a special day for another former Wing, Quade Taylor. His goals, either side of one from Chike Kandi won the game for the visitors with a Dipo Akinyemi penalty being all that Welling could muster.

Dulwich manager Barnes had his first taste of senior football management alongside Loui Fazakerley and Michael McEntegart at Welling when they were in the National League. Several players will also be playing against their former clubs, so there is a possibility that this could be a feisty affair.
