Tonight, Welling United host Dartford in the first Kent Senior Cup Semi Final.
Although both teams have more pressing matters in the Vanarama National League South, it gives respective managers Warren Feeney and Steve King an opportunity to give players short in game time a run out with the opportunity of some silverware.
Both clubs have two games in three days over the upcoming weekend. Although Dartford cannot now win the league, they will be keen on taking third place for a bye in the first round of the play-offs and are currently in fourth place, one point behind Ebbsfleet United.
For Welling, it’s a different story as they try and stay off bottom place and relegation to the Isthmian League. At present they are two points above Billericay Town in what has become a two club shoot-out. They claimed a valuable point from Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday.
Dartford are the current holders having beaten Whitstable Town six-one in the final of the 2019-20 campaign that was finally decided five months ago. They started this year’s campaign with a second round two-one win over Dover Athletic before winning four-two at Margate in the quarter final.
It has not been quite as straight forward for the Wings. They also started their campaign in the second round and needed a late equaliser by Bradley Pearce to claim a two all draw at Herne Bay before prevailing on penalties. Then, in the quarter final they again went all the way by winning through via a shoot-out after sharing four goals with Tonbridge Angels.
The victors will meet the winners of the Hythe Town v Folkestone Invicta game one night later at a ground and date to be arranged.
