On Saturday, Welling United host Chippenham Town in another tough Vanarama National League South fixture.
Last Saturday, Peter Taylor’s Wings were level at championship chasing Dartford until the last quarter of an hour. However, they conceded twice in that period and came away empty handed.
Having been ahead twice in the first half through Dipo Akinyemi’s brace, their supporters had hope of getting something out of the game. It was not to be though, and the defeat leaves them third from bottom above Braintree Town and Billericay Town.
Visitors Chippenham Town occupy the final play-off place at present and will want to win as much as Welling to try to hold off the chasing clubs immediately below them. They have only lost once in five games after being doubled in their festive season derbies with Bath City.
Away from home they have become draw specialists with seven recorded alongside their four wins and just two defeats (at Bath and Maidstone United).
When Welling visited the Wiltshire club in October they had their best day on the road so fat this season. Daniel Carr opened the scoring but Adam Mann levelled in first half injury time. Akinyemi put Welling back in front eight minutes into the second half, and Che Krabbendam added a third four minutes later.
Last season at Park View Road, the Bluebirds claimed all three points with an only goal victory courtesy of a strike twenty minutes from time scored by Bradley Ash.
There is much at stake for both clubs so it could be another tense afternoon.
