Following a blank Saturday for both clubs, Welling United are scheduled to entertain Bromley on Tuesday, dependant on the weather.
Icy conditions meant that Bromley’s game at Dagenham and Redbridge and Welling’s game at home to Dartford were postponed.
That means that the F.A. Trophy game at Hayes Lane between the two clubs was the last game for each of them.
On that afternoon, Welling upset the odds and claimed the spoils courtesy of goals from two former Bromley players.
All appeared to be going to script when Jack Holland opened the scoring for the Ravens as Welling failed to deal with a free kick.
However, they did not push on and Welling grew into the game and looked the team more likely to score next. There was some good fortune in their equaliser, though, when Danny Waldren slung in a cross from a long way out and Harry Crawford’s run caused sufficient distraction to leave Alan Julian flat footed.
Chris Lewington made a crucial save from Blair Turgott just before the break and the two teams went in level.
Expected pressing from Bromley was not forthcoming in the second period and Welling remained the better side without creating too many clear cut chances. Their deserved winner came when Adam Cunnington conceded a tired free kick and Adam Coombes fired over the wall for his 30th goal of the season in all competitions.
After the game, Bromley manager Neil Smith admitted that he needed to increase numbers both on the coaching and playing side. He has now taken action by bringing in Alan Dunne, the former Millwall centre half, as player coach.
He has also recruited defender Aaron Hayden from Wolverhampton Wanderers and forward Brandon Hanlan from Charlton Athletic, both on initial one month loan deals.
Whilst Welling are under the caretaker management duo of Tristan Lewis and Harry Wheeler, they may choose to rest those carrying knocks. Harry Girling played a big part in them having got this far when saving three penalties in the shoot out with Dartford.
Archie Johnson and Trey Williams may be given starts after being regulars on the bench and Harvey Brand (Thamesmead Town) and Josh Jackson (Phoenix Sports) are on dual registration and may be given a run out.
Ultimately, though, the winter weather conditions may prevail and the teams will have to wait for the meeting.
