There’s another tough Vanarama National league South game awaiting Welling United on Saturday when they host Bath City.
Currently third in the league table, one point behind Aveley and Worthing, the Romans have got off to an excellent start to the season.
Meanwhile, Welling have dropped down to twentieth after their mini-unbeaten run of three games was ended at Worthing on Tuesday evening.
It was tough on the Wings as, despite the difference in the standings between the two clubs, neutrals would have found it difficult to tell which team was a front-runner until the Rebels were awarded a contentious payment with just over twenty minutes remaining. After that, Welling never looked like levelling and conceded a second late on.
On the same evening, Bath City lost top spot when held one all, away to Truro City, having been ahead at half time. They have lost just once this season when thumped six-two at home to Weston-super-Mare. Away from home, as well as the game at Truro, they have drawn at Dartford and won at both Eastbourne Borough and St. Albans City.
In last season’s corresponding fixture in March, the Wings won a tight game one-nil through a late goal by Kodi Lyons-Foster.
Danny Bloor, the Welling manager, will still be without club captain Mitchell Dickenson, although he may be back in contention in a week or two. TJ Bramble will also be absent as he is away on international duty.
