Welling United v Barnet Preview

Welling United will play their first Saturday home match for four weeks when they entertain Barnet in a Skrill Premier League encounter on Saturday.Welling United

Their four game unbeaten run was ended in a subdued performance at Macclesfield on Saturday when they failed to play as the can until they were two goals behind. Ross Lafayette kept up his ratio of one goal every two games when he headed home Loui Fazakerley’s cross with eight minutes to go but Welling were unable to find an equaliser.

Barnet are one point and three places ahead of their hosts following a good 3-1 victory over Salisbury City on Saturday after going behind early on.

The prospect of seeing Edgar Davids on the Park View Road pitch will pull in some neutral spectators however many Welling supporters will be hoping Anthony Acheampong, a stalwart of last season’s Blue Square South Championship winning side, will be in the Bees’ starting line up..

Injuries continue to stretch Jamie Day’s comparatively small Welling squad. Blaine Hudson limped off with a hamstring strain last Saturday and is expected to join Doug Bergqvist on the sidelines.

Day has taken remedial action by bringing in Baily Cargill on a one month loan from Bournemouth’s development squad. He is likely to go straight in the team alongside Fraser Franks which will allow Jake Gallagher to play in his usual midfield role.

Harry Beautyman is likely to be out for another two weeks but there was better news for Day in Kiernan Hughes-Mason playing the full ninety minutes in a London Senior Cup victory over Erith Town on Tuesday night at his own request.

Sam Corne has returned from a loan spell at VCD Athletic whilst Callum Webb has been sent out to get some playing time under his belt at Metropolitan Police FC.
