Welling United v Altrincham preview

New Welling United manager Loui Fazakerley will be under the spotlight in his first match in charge, especially as the match is live on B.T. Sports.

FOOTBALL (WELLING AWAY)

As expected, there have been personnel changes as a new manager brings in his own players.

Veterans Karl Duguid and Darren Purse have departed but three players, who all know the club, have returned. Loanees, Michael Chambers (Crystal Palace) and Aristide Bassele (AFC Bournemouth), will be at the club for the remainder of the season and Michael McEntegart (brother of assistant manager, Matthew) has come in as goalkeeper cover for Jonathan Henly.

Quite how the team will line up remains to be seen. At the back, Barney Williams is likely to start at right back, and Jamal Fyfield on the left. Sam Berry , Chris Bush and Chambers may compete for a central defensive place.

In midfield, either Sam Corne or Zac Fagan may replace Duguid while Jake Gallagher’s suspension again rules him out, although Fagan is another option for centre back.

FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Up front, Southend United loanee Jason Williams will probably continue to lead the attack with Sam Akinde, Bassele, Reece Harris, Kieron St. Aimie and Rod Young competing for the other two places. Anthony Jeffrey’s broken ankle means he will not be involved again this season.

Earlier in the season, Welling enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 win away to Altrincham with Harry Beautyman, Tyrone Marsh, Gallagher and Bush on the score-line. Since then ‘Alty’ have improved and are now in a safe mid-table position.

Welling have reduced admission costs to just £10 for adults, £5 for ‘Concessions (with id) and free for under 12s with a paying adult.

Whilst the first team trained on Saturday morning before resting ahead of their Sunday fixture, the Development Squad / Reserves entertained Suburban League leaders Sutton United.

Although they worked hard, there was no doubt why the visitors were top of the league and a hat-trick from Emil Salama saw them good for a 3-0 win. The majority of the Welling team were 16 year olds. The more experienced Sutton team, who have only lost twice in two years, never looked in danger after going ahead in the 3rd minute.

Welling United line up: Cotterell, Brand, Armstrong, Birch, Plummer, Dillon, Try, Wooton, Lin-Luboya, Kempton, Johnson.

Substitutes: Heath, Aganbi Gunner, Westney, Sondofu.
