Welling United have announced their new management structure for season 2019-20, and it’s the return of some familiar faces.
Academy Director Gary Fiore will take on the additional responsibility of Director of Football in a similar manner to how Tristan Lewis started the 2017-18 season. He will work alongside Chairman Mark Goldberg who will take on some of the football team management duties including player recruitment.
Hugo Langton returns to the club as First Team Coach and he will be aided by two assistant coaches, Paul Barnes and Osei Sankofa. Both have previous coaching experience at Park View Road, the latter only being let go as part of the budget cuts earlier this year.
Goldberg told the Welling United website “As discussed during our recent supporters meeting, we need to work with a budget that is more sustainable than that with which we operated with last year and does not put the club at risk.
Following Steve King’s departure as Manager we have looked at a number of options but feel that at this moment in time it is prudent to make better use of the resources available to us within the club’s hierarchy.
We will be announcing some player signings later this week which will demonstrate that whilst we will be operating on a reduced budget it is still our absolute intention to be very competitive with the aim of pushing above halfway hopefully within sight of the play offs.
I hope the supporters will get behind the new regime and the new squad for the forthcoming season where we will at least show the highest commitment to maintain your support.”
Initial pre-season friendlies have been announced at Margate on July 6th, Bromley on July 9th, at home to Charlton Athletic on July 13th and at Whitehawk on July 30th with further games to be announced.
