Having led Truro City 5-1 early in the second half, Welling United were forced into some last gasp defending before being able to claim the three points.
Steve King changed the formation and played two strikers with Bradley Goldberg playing in the area just behind. He had an early chance but his shot flew just over.
Harvey Rivers saved well from Matt Paterson before Welling went ahead. John Paul Kissock was felled in the penalty area and although Rivers went the right way, Goldberg’s penalty was too strong for him and went in at the bottom corner.
Julien Anau’s header then found Paterson who picked out Goldberg and his shot was deflected on to the far post and out.
Dan Rooney had an opportunity for Truro and lifted a long ball over the on-rushing Dan Wilks but he was unable to hit the target.
That proved costly as Welling scored twice in three minutes shortly afterwards. Craig Braham-Barrett went on a long run before stroking the ball into the bottom corner. Then Dan McNamara picked out Danny Mills with a cross and although his header came back off the bar, Paterson was on hand to crash it home.
Goldberg might have made it four when sent clear but stabbed his shot just beyond the far post.
Tyler Harvey volleyed wide for Truro from a goo position just before the break.
Immediately after the interval Goldberg and Paterson combined to send Mills clear and he slotted home from close range.
However, within two minutes, Truro had pulled one back, River Allen sent Tyler free and he shot across Wilks and inside the far post.
Mills restored Welling’s four goal advantage when finishing following an excellent run and cross from Anau.
Again, Truro came back and Wilks did well to save a free kick that evaded everyone before Truro scored again when Harvey touched in a low Nick Grimes cross.
Allen had a shot saved by Wilks then Grimes headed over from close range so it came as no surprise when Truro scored again with eight minutes remaining, Nick Hurst heading home from Niall Thompson’s cross.
Had Louis Rooney not fired over from very close range it would have been a nervy finale for Welling but he missed the chance and Brendan Kiernan almost scored for Welling during the nine minutes of additional time.
