Three unanswered goals ensured that Welling United progressed in the F.A. Youth Cup second qualifying round at the expense of Ebbsfleet United.
In the early stages, Welling passed it accurately and were quicker onto anything loose. Ramon Elliot had a long range shot pushed round the post by Kayden Abnett before Mecca Maxime-Samuels came close when his shot clipped the bar.
Then the visitors settled and started to create problems of there own. Joe Buchanan headed over from a near post corner before Hadez Karim had a shot deflected wide.
It was then the Fleet’s turn to hit the woodwork when Max Shoolbred blocked a clearance and it cannoned back off the post.
Maxime-Samuels twice had good opportunities, first when meeting David Kamara’s cross in a central position but heading straight at Abnett, then when getting on the end of a whipped in free kick by Kyle Moore and heading over.
Charlie Connell then shot just over after Moore went on a run that took him past four players then Kamara had a shot tipped over as Welling continued to press. Moore was again involved when creating another opportunity for Maxime-Samuels whose shot was saved.
Kyle Talbott had a shot for Ebbsfleet saved at the second attempt by Archie Adious but Welling were soon back on the front foot when Antonio Morgan had a shot deflected wide. The Welling man had another effort shortly after and was on target but Abnett beat his shot out.
One minute before the end of the regulation forty-five minutes, Welling went ahead. A beautiful Welling flowing move gave Maxime-Samuels the chance to lay it off for Kamara and he made no mistake from fifteen yards.
Joe Freeman made an interception in first half stoppage time and burst forward before launching a pile-driver that flew just over.
Early in the second period Welling made it two in slightly fortuitous manner. Morgan ‘s cross from wide floated over a deceived Abnett and inside the far post.
Things went from bad to worse for Ebbsfleet shortly after when Tristan Lock, who had been booked in the first half, and then warned, again displeased the referee by throwing the ball away and hitting a Welling player on the back of his head. That earned him a second yellow and red card.
Shoolbred shot straight at Adious from out wide and Karim shot wide as the Fleet tried to make light of being short numbered. Shoolbred again tried his luck from out wide before Welling had another great opportunity. Connell was at the end of another excellent move but slotted wide as Abnett rushed out.
Carl Anderson hit a thirty-five yard shot just wide for the visitors but Welling had chances to pick Ebbsfleet off as they had to throw men forward. Oliver Godziemski shot over from a tight angle then Kamara set up Nigel Nyako but he was at full stretch and couln’t hit the target.
The Wings did add a third with the last kick of the match, Godziemski broke down the left and cut in before slotting it home under Abnett.
