Despite playing as poorly as they have played all season, Welling United still claimed a point against Farnborough, and might have taken all three.
Jack Turner, the Farnborough goalkeeper, made a stunning save from Tristan Abrahams deep into stoppage time however a draw was probably a fair result.
Danny Bloor’s team might have had a penalty in the opening exchanges when a clear pull of the shirt on Abrahams stopped him from getting a shot away before Ollie Pendlebury arrived late at the far post at the other end but he side-footed wide.
In the twenty-seventh minute, Welling went ahead. Lewis White recycled an attack and clipped it back across goal. Crossley Lema headed it back into the middle to Dominic Odusanya and he brought it down before slotting it home.
Antony Papadopoulos sent Jephte Tanga through and he looked sure to score but Reggie Young got back and made a fantastic last ditch tackle. Jack Burchell then came agonisingly close when meeting a James Vaughan free kick but fired over from close range.
It seemed that Welling would go into the half time break ahead, but in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Farnborough levelled. Pendlebury scuffed a free kick and it found its way through the Welling defensive wall and into the bottom corner.
After the interval, during which James Vaughan was replaced by TJ Bramble, Welling were awarded a free kick in a similar position following a foul by Ollie Robinson. Papadopoulos took it and it struck one of the players in the wall deflecting it just wide with Turner an onlooker.
Former Wing Taylor Maloney went close with a snap-shot from the edge of the penalty area before Jack Bull was off target with a header from a Pendlebury free kick.
Following Vaughan’s precautionary withdrawal, Papadopoulos took over corner duties and one of his deliveries picked out Burchell. He headed into Abrahams whose header clipped the bar on the way over.
Robinson launched one of many long throws, Farnborough’s main form of attack, and it found Michael Folivi but his shot on the turn had no power on it and Ben Winterbottom saved comfortably.
Folivi’s deflected cross then flew into the path of Robinson who hooked inches past the post before Lama came even closer for the Wings when his long range shot clattered the bar.
Connor Hall fired over the near post for Farnborough then Papadopoulos had a shot saved by Turner at the other end. Farnborough substitute Jayden Davis was exceedingly fortunate not to be dismissed for a second yellow card for a cynical foul having already had a warning. After Byrd had made an excellent block from Folivi, Davis suffered the ignominy of being a substituted substitute.
Three minutes of regulation time remained when Welling regained the lead. Cameron Green’s pass found Bramble in the penalty area and he turned to fire into the bottom corner. However, two minutes later, the visitors restored parity. Maloney sent in a beautiful diagonal cross that picked out Dan Gifford and he glanced his header home.
Deep into stoppage time, Abrahams thought that he had won it when his powerful shot from Tanga’s pull back flew towards goal but it was kept out by Turner’s brilliance and the two teams settled for a point apiece.
