Welling United 1-3 Dulwich Hamlet

After going in ahead at half time, Welling United conceded three second half goals in their pre-season friendly with Dulwich Hamlet.

Michael Chambers came agonisingly close to putting the visitors ahead when his header came back out off the inside of the post for the visitors. Then, at the other end, Welling came close when they opened up the Dulwich back three but, although the Wings’ trialist got there first, he could only steer it just wide with his first touch.

Sanchez Ming crossed deep for Dulwich but the angle was too tight for a Dulwich trialist and he couldn’t finish before Welling had another opportunity when awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.

James Vaughan struck it sweetly but the Dulwich trialist goalkeeper read it and made an excellent save.

In the thirty-third minute, the deadlock was broken when Lewis White twisted and turned in the penalty area before slotting it into the bottom corner.

Ade Shokunbi had a shot deflected wide for Dulwich before Jerome Binnom-Williams met the resultant corner with a firm header back into the goalmouth that Jerry Gyebi nodded into the hands of the Welling goalkeeper.

At half time, Welling made several change and Dulwich came close to levelling when a trialist drew a good save out of the Welling goalkeeper then Gyebi headed over from close range from the corner.

Antony Papadopoulos curled just wide with the keeper well beaten, then Sadik Balarabe drew the Dulwich custodian out and rounded him but rolled it just beyond the far post from a tight angle.

Nine minutes into the second period, Dulwich levelled. A defensive mix up gave Ryley Scott the opportunity to square to Adrian Clifton and he tucked it away.

Hakan Hayrettin, the Dulwich manager, then made a number of changes and another defensive error gifted Dulwich the lead. A poor back pass allowed one of the two Hamlet trialist substitutes wearing number four on their shirts to go past the goalkeeper and slot home.

Papadopoulos again came close for Welling before Danny Mills won a header that fell for Luke Wanadio whose long shot was saved low down.

Wanadio finished the scoring from the spot with seven minutes remaining after Anthony Jeffrey was brought down.

On Saturday, Welling are again at home with Woking the visitors while Dulwich entertain Erith and Belvedere.
